REX ., laureate and armoured bust of James II, resting on four sceptres, upon pedestal dated 1685, Royal shield within Garter below, Neptune driving marine car across the sea behind, rev. Justice standing, the severed heads of the Duke of Monmouth and Earl of Argyll either side, their decapitated bodies resting below, AMBITIO MALESUADA RUIT, in exergue, lightning strikes the fleeing troops beyond, 61mm, 93.63g (Eimer 281; MI I, 615/27; v. Loon III, 307), usual metal flaw to reverse edge, some minor contact marking within the fields, otherwise richly cabinet toned to glossy, near-brilliant surfaces, extremely fine, in NGC holder, graded MS62 (Cert.#8222336-001)
