Charles I (1625-1649), Civil War Issues, Royalist Oxford, 'Declaration' Crown, 1642, New Hall Inn, struck from a 'Shrewsbury' obverse die, • CAROLVS : D : G : MAG : BRIT • FRAN • ET • HIBER • REX, King on horseback left, ground line below, plume behind, rev. •:•:• EXVRGAT : DEVS : DISSIPENTVR : INIMICI | RELIG • PROT • LEG | ANG • LIBER • PAR in two lines, three even 'Oxford' plumes and • V • above, 1642 below, 29.46g, 8h, i.m. pellet / seven pellets (Morrieson A-1; Brooker 869; North 2405; S.2946), striking crack in flan at 2 o'clock and areas of softness to legends where lightly doubled, otherwise with a pleasant uniform tone, very fine, an imposing example of this iconic Civil War 'Cartwheel' coinage!
