THE RUE HAYES HOARD | A Fine Medieval Silver Trove of Shortcross Pennies (36), Cuts (12) & Fractions (1) | Deposited after 1242 | including: Henry III (1216-1272), Pennies and Fractions (42), Classes 6c-8b, moneyers include Roger, Salemun, Willem, Tomas, Raulf, from London, Canterbury etc..., recovered all together using a metal detector, the latest coins of Class 8b (1242-1247), indicate that the coins were deposited about this time, potentially includes some contemporary forgeries due to unusual lettering and plating; a fascinating academic assemblage presented en bloc for the buddying Medieval researcher or 13th Century connoisseur (49)

As noted by the Portable Antiquities Scheme: "42 pence in 1247 is equivalent to a notional face value of £127.72 in modern terms. However its spending power was much greater, for at the time, this was equivalent to 17 days' pay for a skilled tradesman or 1 quart of wheat."
