Tamworth Hoard, 1877



C F Keary writing in the Numismatic Chronicle recorded the following account for the discovery: "During the execution of works in connection with the new Board-schools at Tamworth, a workman raised with his pick small packet somewhat triangular in shape, formed of lead turned over (like a turn-over tart). On opening the case it proved to contain coins, of which four or five were sold and dispersed. The remainder were saved from dispersion and were subsequently sent to the Treasuryas treasure-trove. The coins were sent to the British Museum for examination, and were found to be two hundred and ninety-four in number......Uncertains Mints (14)....EDPINE ON....."
