Indo-Greek and Indo-Scythian (14) | Indo-Greek Kingdom, Hermaeus (c.40-1 BC), square AE Units (2), 8.65g; 7.71g, bearded bust of Zeus/Mithra right, wearing Phrygian cap, rev. horse standing right, one hoof raised, monogram in different place on each coin (Bopearachchi 9B/D; SNG ANS 1348, 1353; M.416, 7), both very fine or a little better, better than average for type; Indo-Scythian, Vonones with Spalirises (c.75-65 BC), square AE Unit, 8.73g, horseman right, holding a whip with a beaded square frame, Greek legend, rev. Herakles seated left on a rock with lion skin, holding a club , monogram bottom left, within a square frame with Kharoshthi legend (Senior 69.2; M.691; MAC 2165), well framed with all legends clear, pleasingly toned, very fine; Azes (c.58-12 BC), square AE Unit, 11.91g, Poseidon standing facing with one foot on horned river god, holding trident right, Greek legend, rev. yakshi standing facing between vines, monogram bottom left, kharoshthi legend (Senior 77.1; M.740; MAC 2210), about very fine / fine, scarce and interesting; AE Unit (Tetradrachm), 13.76g, zebu bull standing right, monogram above, Greek legend, rev. lion standing right, monogram above, kharoshthi legend (Senior 102.130; M.850; MAC 2386-7), with some natural deposit remaining on surfaces giving good definition to the designs, an impressive piece, very fine; square AE Unit, 11.00g, king on horseback right, holding whip and spear, Greek legend, Kharoshthi letter bottom right, rev. zebu bull standing right, monogram above, kharoshthi legend (Senior 121.11; M.834; MAC 2327-30), obverse once heavily cleaned, but fields now have an attractive powdery tone, very fine / good very fine; Kharahostes, Satrap in Chach (c.20-1 BC), square AE Unit, 7.31g, king on horseback right, Greek legend, Kharoshthi letter bottom right, rev. lion standing right, monogram and letter above back, kharoshthi legend (Senior 143.2; M.887; MAC 2476), fields with residual deposit showing main designs to good effect, about very fine / very fine; together with Indo-Scythian, Azes and Apracharaja derivatives (c. 58 BC - first century AD), Tetradrachms (3); Drachms (4), all with king on horseback right, rev. Tetradrachm of Azes with Zeus standing left, Tetradrachms of the Apracharajas (2) with Pallas standing right, one an anonymous posthumous issue, the other of Itravasu, the Drachms with Zeus (2), Pallas (2) (Senior 90, 98, 105, 175, 177; M.753, 847, 858, 859, 867, 897; MAC 2234, 2357, 2426, 2432, 2433, 2449, 2482), selected for clarity of design and condition, very fine to extremely fine (14)
