Roman Empire, Caligula (AD 37-41), AR Denarius, Lugdunum, struck c. 40, C CAESAR [AVG PON] M TR POT III COS [III], laureate head of Caligular right, rev. DI[VVS AVG] PATER PATRIAE, radiate head of Augustus right, 3.00g (RIC 24; BM 32; Giard, Lyon 177; cf. Gorny 297, lot 1476 (obverse); cf. CNG 438 lot 463 (reverse)), struck slightly off-centre to reverse, with some wear to edge inscriptions, nevertheless rare and very fine
