(x) Æthelræd II 'Unræd' (978-1016), 'Crux' Type, Penny, 991-997, Totnes, Aelfstan, + ÆÐELRÆD REX ANGLORX, NG and ORX ligated, small bare headed bust left, four horizontal folds to drapery, pellet behind neck, trefoil-tipped sceptre before with additional pellet above, within inner circle, rev. + ÆLFSTAN M-O TOTA, short voided cross with C, R, V, X, in angles within inner circle, 1.29g [19.01grns], 4h (Hildebrand C; SCBI 7 [Copenhagen, Part II], 1252-1254; SCBI 11 [Reading], 71; SCBI 20 [Mack], 883 same reverse die; SCBI 25 [Helsinki], 119-120; SCBI 45 [Latvian], 14; SCBI 50 [Hermitage, Part I], 510; SCBI 52 [Uppsala], 141]; MEC 8 [Fitzwilliam], 1860; North 770; BMC IIIa [Coll. 334]; S.1148), struck on a large module but of light weight, a crack following crease extending from 12 o'clock to drapery, now stabilised, with numerous peck marks, otherwise lightly toned, softly struck but approaching very fine, a scarce provincial mint
