Mary Solus (1553-1554), Groat, Tower, crowned bust left, wearing simply-jewelled plain bodice and pearl necklace, rev. square-topped shield over cross fourchée, 1.94g, 1h (North 1960; Spink 2492), pierced at 7 o'clock, with minor flan splits to edge, otherwise darkly toned with areas of striking softness, nevertheless strictly fine / about very fine and even still above average for issue of this popular one-year 'Bloody Mary' type
