Persia, Safavid Dynasty, Isma`il I (1501-1524), silver Larins, 4.96; 5.09g, early type, on a short flan using a "mill-sail" die, with single fold (Album A2588), fine to very fine, rare with readable legends taken from original Persian coins; Safavid Dynasty, from time of Tahmasp I (1524-1576), silver Larins (4), most with partially readable Persian legends, one with name of Tahmasp clear (Album 2610; MWI 2294), fine to very fine, rare with readable legends taken from original Persian coins (6)

The earliest type of Larin were struck at various mints in southern Iran. They were used for trade in the Indian Ocean, especially Sri Lanka. The later examples in this lot may have been struck on flans with a single fold, and folded again later while in trade.
