Percy Charlies Gay was born at Kingston-On-Thames, Surrey in 1895, the only son of Charlie and Annie Gay of 34 Canbury Avenue, Kingston-on-Thames. He enlisted with 2/1st (London) Field Company, Royal Engineers at Victoria Park Middlesex, entering the war at some stage after 1916. The Company was supporting the 56th (London) Division in support of the French at Combles in September 1916. At some stage Gay was severely wounded in action during the invasion, he died of his wounds on 16 September 1916 and is buried at Corbie Communal Cemetery Extension.
Edwin Hazzard of The Chase, Bishops Waltham, Hampshire survived the war but died on 20 June 1921. It appears his wife received a pension as a result suggesting his death was due to his war service.
