John Logan served with the 4th Field Battery, Royal Artillery on the North-West Frontier, after the outbreak of the Second World War he joined the Honourable Artillery Company as an Officer Cadet. He was commissioned on 1 June 1940 and posted to the 122nd Field Regiment at Singapore.

Logan appeared upon a list of dangerously ill men at Singapore on 10 September 1941, it is likely that this illness prevented him from taking part in the Battle of Malaya. Half of the Regiment (280 Battery) remained in Singapore while the other half (278 Battery) fought through the country during the British retreat.

The Regiment reunited during the Siege of Singapore and surrendered when the city fell on 15 February, at the time Logan was Acting Major. They were divided amongst the Japanese internment camps with many going to construct the Burma railway while others ended up in Thailand, Korea and Japan.

Logan survived the appalling conditions and went on to be advanced Captain on 1 April 1949. He was discharged on 19 January 1954; sold together with copied research.
