Frederick Mugford attested for the 14th Hussars and served with them in the ranks prior to being appointed Quartermaster on 20 September 1882. Promoted Honorary Captain on 20 September 1892, he served with the Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War. Mugford later retired on 16 January 1901.
