Edwin Day, a native of Derby, was born in 1869 and worked as a moulder prior to enlisting with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps on 9 May 1889 - at the time he was serving in the 5th Battalion, Derbyshire Regiment. He is additionally entitled to the India General Service 1854-95, clasp N.E. Frontier 1891, the Q.S.A. with 6 clasps and the K.S.A. with 2 clasps for service with the 1st Battalion.
