British South Africa Company 1890-97, reverse Rhodesia 1896, no clasp (5002 Gunr. W. Greedy. 24/Westn.Dn. R.A.), light contact marks with a minor edge knock, otherwise very fine

William Greedy was born in Morebath, Devon and worked as a labourer prior to enlisting with the Royal Artillery at Devonport on 31 July 1894, aged 20. He was posted to Mauritius on 23 May 1896. The medal roll states that Greedy was part of the 24th Company, which disembarked at Beira on 6 July 1896 while en-route to Mauritius, where they participated in operations in Matabeleland and Mashonaland. The Company disembarked at Beira on 18 December 1896 to continue on to Mauritius.

Greedy left Mauritius for Malta on 27 December 1897, and soon afterwards was advanced Bomber on 26 January 1898. While in Malta, Greedy was diagnosed with a tubercle of his lung and was deemed permanently unfit for service. He returned home on 29 October 1898 and was discharged as an invalid on 21 March 1899; sold together with copied service record and medal roll.
