Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) Presentation Medal, silver, 45mm, scroll suspension with further ring and straight bar suspension, the obverse engraved with unit Badge, the reverse engraved 'Presented to Clr Sergt Geo. Luscombe. 42nd Royal Highdrs (Black Watch) by his fellow Sergts as a token of esteem and in recognition of his many years faithful service in the Regiment. 12th Sept. 1896.', very fine
George Luscombe was born circa 1857 in Doddiscombleigh, Exeter, Devon and enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment in November 1876. Soon after in September 1877, Luscombe transferred to the 78th Highlanders with whom he was promoted Corporal in August 1880. Luscombe served alongside his regiment in Afghanistan from September until December 1880. In August 1882, he was transferred to the 1st Battalion, Royal Highlanders and was promoted Sergeant in June 1883. He served with his battalion in the Egypt campaign and was later advanced Colour Sergeant in March 1886. A few years ahead of his discharge in March 1898, Luscombe was awarded with a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in April 1895.
Luscombe is entitled to an Afghanistan 1878-80 Medal, an Egypt Medal with clasps for The Nile 1884-5 and Kirbekan, a Khedive's Star, as well as a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
