Ralph Wilcocks was born on 8 March 1868 and was a groom when he enlisted in the Yorkshire Regiment; he was discharged from the army in December 1892. Wilcocks subsequently joined the Metropolitan Police on 1 May 1893, with warrant number 78595 and was posted to K (Stepney) Division. He was pensioned on 11 August 1919 whilst serving in L (Lambeth) Division.
