Norman William Jackson was born on 17 September 1909 at Woodstock, Oxfordshire. He saw previous service with the S.A.N.S. Protea, but with the outbreak of the Second World War re-enlisted at Cape Town on 22 May 1940 as a Steward. He was stationed at Cape Town on 22 May 1940 before transferring to Durban on 4 December 1940, where he remained until being posted again to Cape Town on 6 January 1941. Jackson then carried out Special Service between 31 May 1941 and 31 August 1942 aboard Nile before returning to the Cape Town Detachment on 24 February 1942, remaining there until 6 April 1943. He then transferred to the Port Elizabeth Detachment on 10 October 1943, becoming Medically Restricted on 10 October 1943 and was later discharged as medically unfit on 22 April 1944. His medals were applied for in 1963; sold with copied service papers which confirm medal entitlement.
