Family Group awarded to two brothers who both died during the Second World War

Albert Walter Ashen was born in 1919 in Hamstead, Birmingham and enlisted there on 17 January 1940 with the 10th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. He transferred to the 6th Battalion Green Howards in July 1942, with whom he was posted to the Middle East shortly afterwards. Ashen died of wounds at the 48th General Hospital in Southern Tunisia aged just 23 and was interred at the Tripoli War Cemetery; sold together with copied research and war grave photographs.

Charles Samuel Frank Ashen was born in 1915 in Hamstead, Birmingham where he attested with the Royal Engineers on 24 October 1940. While serving with the No. 1 Boring Section in Caserta, Italy, Ashen was killed by a stab wound to his back and was interred at the Caserta War Cemetery; sold together with copied research and war grave photographs.

The medals awarded to their father, Charles Philip Ashen, were sold in these Rooms in July 2024 as Lot 229.
