Herbert Shawcross was born in 1887, a native of Chorlton-Cum-Hardy, Manchester and enlisted on 11 December 1915. Entering the war first in France on 26 February 1917 he was posted to Salonica on 7 March. Classified as a Clerk on 19 June 1918, he continued to serve there for the duration of the conflict until being demobilised on 17 October 1919.
