United States of America, Victory Medal 1914-18, fitted without suspension, good fine or better

The Allied Victory Medals of World War 1 by Alexander J. Laslo (2nd Revised Edition) notes on page 96 that such a medal was struck as a "so-called dollar". Hibler and Kappen list the bronze "so-called dollar" variety of the U.S. Victory Medal as rare (51 to 250 specimens known) and the copper variety as extremely rare (5 to 20 specimens known). These "so-called dollar" varieties were probably produced in very limited quantities for sale to the public by one of the three commercial manufacturers that was contracted to strike the official medal.
