Bernhard Wilhelm Richter served as Adjudant to General De Wet during the Anglo-Boer War, being wounded four times in the leg, side, chest and right arm. He is confirmed present at Magersfontein, Paardeberg, Abrahamskraal and Wepener. As well as Graspan, Rooilaagte, Reitz, Ladybrand and Koedoesberg. He received a reference in General De Wet's memoirs, which state:

'Commandant Lategan was stationed on the hill to the west of town, close to the farm of Glengarry, whose owner, Mr. B. W. Richter--father of my valient adjutants, B. W. and Jan Richter--must have been much surprised that morning when he discovered something very like an attack was being made on Dewetsdorp.;

The farm of Glengarry continued to be used as a depot by the Boer Commandos throughout the war; sold together with copied research in Afrikaans as well as a photograph.
