At the request of the British Government during Operation Desert Shield & Granby, the Government of Singapore sent a Medical Team (Operation Nightingale) on 20 January 1991. The 30-man Team under Major Tan Chi Chi was attached to the 250th General Hospital.

The Singapore Armed Forces Medical Team shared in the UN Mission in Guatemala (MINUGUA) from 13 February-15 May 1997 and comprised 1 Officer and 4 Orderlies, thus just 5 clasps were issued. It was the first time Singapore had served a Mission in Latin America.
