(x) Royal Geographical Society Scott Memorial Medal 1910-13, the artists plaster mould/production proof, 220mm diameter, some cracking due to age but a good original piece, very fine
Just 25 Silver and 41 Bronze Medals were issued to the survivors and the next-of-kin for those who perished on this fated Expedition. The finished product by Bowcher featured a uniformed bust of Captain Robert Falcon Scott almost facing, rev. polar scene with five figures advancing right (BHM 4101; E 1933; cf. Poulsom p. 87). This was clearly an early production model, due to several changes (the rough, icy terrain does not extend further down and closer to the wording below, there is a comma after the word DISCOVERY, and the sprays of laurel leaves).
Given that the Royal Geographical Society Secretary Dr. John Scott Keltie '...asked Bowcher for the dies and the plaster casts for framing and display at the RGS', this is perhaps a unique survivor on the open market.
