Frank Fenner was born at Rotherfield, Sussex on 14 May 1882 and was educated at New Groombridge School. The son of Charles and Esther, who lived at Senlae Place, he joined up upon the outbreak of the Great War and by the close of 1916 had taken his decoration. In civilian life, he had worked on the railways, being a Booking Clerk at Groombridge Station from December 1896, when he had been recommended by his Schoolmaster for the post. Fenner later worked at Brighton Station and died at Hildenborough in April 1956.
