The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, 1st Type, Civil Division, Member's (M.B.E.) Ladies shoulder Badge, mounted on bow and tails riband, silver, in its Garrard & Co., London case of issue, good very fine

M.B.E. London Gazette 1 January 1921.

E. Townshend is noted in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office paper Women & the Foreign Office. Having held the post for some seven years, it was noted '...'it is with the greatest regret that
she is seen making way for a man who has the right to the work.'
