John Michael Wilson was born on 6 April 1979 and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the Royal Engineers from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst on 11 August 2001. The 9th Parachute Squadron deployed to Macedonia on Operation BESSEMER in support of the weapons collection operation. They were also responsible for constructing force protection measures while Recce Troop mapped the local area, they suffered one Sapper- Ian Collins- killed by locals during this operation.
The unit also saw a quick deployment in Afghanistan in December 2001 although Wilson does not appear to be entitled to a medal for the Operation. They did however take part in Op Telic from January 2003 as part of 16 Air Assault Brigade. During this time Wilson was advanced Captain on 11 February 2004. Fighting in support of both 1 and 3 Para Battalions they returned to a humanitarian role in April providing infrastructure and force protection measures. Wilson was further promoted Major on 31 July 2009 and retired in 2011; sold together with two issue to medals documents, London Gazette extracts and a summary of the operations of the 9th Parachute Squadron.
