Abraham Pierre Montgomery was born at Hartebeespoort, Pretoria on 12 September 1926 and was a jeweller's assistant when he enlisted in the South African forces on 7 January 1942. He was posted to the Physical Training Battalion and from them to the Natal Mounted Rifles in August 1942.

Seeing active service first in Egypt in November 1942 he was posted to Italy in May 1943. Discharged on 28 December 1945 he subsequently joined Number 68 Air School, South African Air Force on 20 April 1948. He died at Johannesburg in 2004; sold together with copied service papers.
