Ambrose George Cole was born at Great Munden, Hertford, Hertfordshire in 1860 and attested with the Grenadier Guards on 21 August 1882. Serving at home for several years Cole was posted to Egypt with the 3rd Battalion to take part in the Suakin expedition 1885 arriving on 20 February. The unit was not present for the major actions at Ginnes or Tofrek and the British Government soon decided to withdraw from the region, the Battalion withdrawn in September 1885. Cole served at home for several more years before joining the Army Reserve in 1889 and being discharged on 21 April 1894; sold together with copied service papers and a medal roll.
