He was drafted to Rifleman as an E.R.A. on 14 April 1876, and subsequently served aboard Coquette on 20 January 1883 and was still with her the next month when she arrived at Suakin. Notably a shore party under Lieutenant Crowe went ashore in February 1884 to man the defences of the town which was in a state of virtual siege. Oakshott was awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal whilst aboard Asia on 22 February 1886. He advanced to Chief E.R.A. on 22 November 1887 whilst aboard Dolphin and then served aboard Assistance from 1890, Hibernia from 1893, Excellent and finally Magdala from 1898, he was invalided to shore on 8 June 1900 and died that same year; sold together with copied research.
