Levi Fort a native of Yeovil in Somerset was born in 1829 and was a 17-year-old labourer when he attested as a Gunner and Driver on 23 May 1846. He initially served in A Troop, R.H.A., and in 1886 as Sergeant 6th Division, Coast Brigade, R.A. He was discharged at London on 4 February 1868 with exemplary conduct; sold together with copied service papers, medals confirmed in discharge papers.
