Earl Wellington Connolly was the son of Jay and Louise Connolly and was born on 18 July 1913 at Bible Hill, Nova Scotia. With the outbreak of the Second World War he joined No. 419 Squadron and completed his first Tour of Ops as a Forward Gunner in Wellingtons. Having been commissioned Pilot Officer and advanced Flying Officer, he met Iris Louisa, of Winson Green, Birmingham, who he married and had issue of a son. Transferred to Lancasters, Connolly shared in the Urft Dam Op on 4 December 1944, the Log Book noting:
'Bomb load 12000lbs. Formation. Bombed on OBOE nothing seen.'
He was detailed to attack Dresden on the night of 13-14 February 1945. Posted missing, they were shot down, with Connolly being buried in Durnbach War Cemetery, aged 31.
