(x) Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Transvaal, Wittebergen, South Africa 1901 (64760 Gnr: C. Lapper, R Bty., R.H.A.), very fine

Note 296 QSA's issued to R battery, R.H.A., only 60 issued with 4 clasps.

Charles Lapper a 19-year-old farm labourer from Bristol enlisted in the Royal Horse Artillery on 24 November 1887, he stated in his enlistment papers that he had previously served in the 4th Battalion of the Gloucester Regiment. He was initially discharged on 23 November 1899 but then re-enlisted on 26 January 1900 and recalled to the colours, under Section D1. He was discharged at Woolwich on 26 January 1909. Interestingly he was employed at Pentonville prison as a warder during his reserve period; sold together with copied service papers and research.
