Michael English was born at Tipperary, Ireland, and attested into the Royal Irish Regiment on 17 February 1894. English saw service in India between 26 November 1895 - 19 January 1901 and service in South Africa between 22 July 1901 - 4 September 1902. He was posted to Army Reserve on 23 November 1902 and finally discharged on 16 February 1906.
