(x) Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 3 clasps, Tamaai, Suakin 1885, Tofrek (W. Bryan, Pte. R.M.), edge bruising, light pitting and contact marks, very fine

Walter Bryan attested at Derby in 1880 for the Royal Marine Light Infantry. He was present for the bloody battles of Tamaai and Tofrek where the Royal Marines were particularly heavily engaged. Especially Tofrek where they were caught in hand to hand fighting with the rampaging Dervish warriors and succeeded in driving them out of the British zariba along with the Berkshire Regiment. Bryan was discharged on 8 June 1892; his medal being sent to him at H.M.S. Asia; sold together with copied research.
