Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Corunna (Alexr. Mitchell, Serjt. 26th Foot.), good very fine

Alexander Mitchell was born at St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh in 1782 and served with the 3rd Foot Guards from 28 March 1798-28 May 1802, rising to the rank of Corporal. Having left that unit in Ireland, he re-enlisted into the 26th (Cameronian) Regiment of Foot in Gallway on 24 September 1804 and served with them until 6 January 1818, serving as Sergeant for some 12 years and 125 days. He was discharged 'infirm', with 'very good' character and was a hackle maker by trade. Mitchell appears to have died at Longford, Westmeath, Ireland in 1872.
