Auction: 24038 - The Dr. Martin M Mortazavi Collection of Persian Banknotes
Lot: 63

(x) Banque Nationale, Iran, uncut front and back pair Printer's Design 5 Pahlevis, 1936,
the 3rd and final Printer's Design presented in this magnificent collection. This is an exceptional piece that mirrors the same intricate representations as the previous two lots yet showcases a unique palette of colours.

Unlike the previous designs, this example is printed on a single sheet where the uncut front and back pair are displayed, along with samples of the new four colours used in the design: pink, blue, yellow, and enchanted coral.

Both the front and back designs utilise all four colours. The combination of pink and blue creates a striking visual effect, resulting in shades of purple. This blend is used prominently in the portrait of Reza Shah, the national arms, and the majestic Lamassu. Meanwhile, the yellow and enchanted coral hues are used to frame the design and to depict the figure of Faravahar positioned at the top centre, creating a captivating golden effect.

The back design similarly displays the denomination "CINQ PAHLEVIS" prominently in all corners, with the illustrious Palace of the 40 Columns in shades of purple at the centre, framed in the rich tones of the yellow and nectarine haze blend, that produces a captivating golden effect, adding to the visual splendour of the note.

What sets this banknote apart and enhances its rarity is the inscription "Bank Nationale de L'Iran" on the back. This designation was never used on any other note issued by Iran, blending a unique historical significance into this piece,
