Lot: 18

(x) Imperial Bank of Persia, 1 Toman, Burujird, 10th December 1925, serial number A/V 058915,
this banknote presents an extremely rare case in which the date on the banknote precedes the opening of the branch. The banknote dates 10th December 1925, yet the branch itself did not open until February 1926. It is noteworthy to mention that the earliest known issuances for this branch are dated in February 1926. The Burujird branch was one of the last Imperial Bank of Persia branches to open and among the earliest to close, shutting their doors on the 20th October 1931.

The front of this banknote is adorned in a black, pink, and green design and features Farsi text. It states that the banknote is PAYABLE AT BURUJIRD ONLY at the bottom of the banknote, as well as the Farsi translation at the top. In a circular portrait on the left of the front of the banknote, Naser al-Din Shah Qajar is depicted. Naser al-Din Shah Qajar was the longest reigning Qajar monarch and is wearing military uniform and a feathered fez. A seal stamp showcases black Farsi text and the image of a lion on an oval background. This stamp design replaced the earlier black oval background and white Farsi text and lion in 1913, likely to improve its discernibility. The handwritten signatures of Vivian L Walter and James Hamish McMurray appear behind the seal stamp. Guilloches accompany a green and pink design. This banknote has a watermark of the Persian coat of arms with the Kiani crown, sun, lion and sword,

(Pick 11, BNB 113), in PMG holder 30 Very Fine, incredible note with interesting history on its dates!
