c.1938 1½d. (2) and 2d. entirely hand-painted stamp-sized essays, touched-up in Chinese white, affixed to small cards, executed by Waterlow staff artist, L.P. Fryer; one 1½d. essay is in pale orange and black and depicts a sunset over the beach, the other is in black and light blue, depicting a daytime beach scene; these designs eventually adopted in type for the issued ¼d.. The 2d. in violet and Chinese white depicts the Cayman Islands Map with a Conch shell in the lower right corner, adopted for the issued 1d. and orange. Unique and charming. Photo
