1856 Issue
Zacatecas 8r. Lilac, used on registered cover front from Sombrerete to Zacatecas dated May 24, 1860, and arrival on May 28 alongside. Stamp has large margins all around. Front is creased and slightly aged. On reverse, on 28 May, annotated as received by the recipient and signed, as stipulated by the postal rules. Sold for $5,000 in the 2000 Regency auction (lot #6085). 2024 MEPSI certificate, signed Shelton. Scott 5.

Note: Very few registered fronts have survived, as the standard procedure was to return them to the originating post office as proof of receipt, where they were kept for two years before being destroyed. provenance: Albert Quast James P. Mazepa
