Auction: 24032 - The 'Pegasus' Collection of Cameroons and Togo
Lot: 53

Togo
Setting 1. Lines 3mm. Apart
2m. blue [10], variety overprint double, on piece tied by "lome/togo" c.d.s. (4.10.14), very fine. Extremely rare, only one sheet of twenty possible of which Gibbs recorded fifteen. R.P.S. (1968) and B.P.A. (1994) Certificates. Gibbs 11a; S.G. H11a, £16,000. Photo

Note: When one of the sheets of the 2m. value was overprinted, the impressions were so low that the word "Occupation" was actually cut through by the perforations in most places. The fastidious printer attempted to correct this error by removing the "togo" and Anglo-French portion of the overprint setting and printing the word "Occupation" a second time above the first impression. Seven of these are unused, which includes a lower left corner block of four in the Royal Philatelic Collection, an unused vertical pair and an unused single from the Bute collection which has no gum. The other eight recorded examples are all unused singles.
