1843 "Bulls Eyes"
AOE. 60r. black, full to mostly large margins showing part of outer frame line at base, exhibiting complete strike of framed "aoe" handstamp in green, with part of an additional faint strike at right. Fine and very attractive. With just three examples recorded, this is the sole one found on the 60r. denomination, and additionally, postmarks in green are extremely rare in this issue. RHM 2. Photo

Note: The "AOE" postmark was used during the Imperial period of Brazil. The term "AOE" stands for "A Ordem é Esta," which translates to "the order is this", and it was used to indicate that a particular letter was authorized for delivery by the post office. This postmark also highlight the evolution of postal services in Brazil, especially the transition from the older payment methods to the more organized system involving prepaid stamps.
