The magnificent one frame exhibit of the 1881 issue including De La Rue essay of the issue design with blank value tablet, in blue and Chinese white, executed on tracing paper dated "april 25 81" and showing hand painted value tablets of the nine issued denominations alongside; master die proofs with blank value tablets (3) in black on glazed card (92x60mm.), two marked "before hardening" and dated "27 jul 81", and one marked "after hardening" and dated "29 jul 81", also another cut down to almost stamp size; 1/- imperforate plate proof blocks of ten (5x2; top left corner with plate number) and eight (4x2), the former with red ink notations of printing dates; 5/- blue, a marginal example affixed to card and initialled in red - ex the De La Rue archives; 10/- and £1 imperforate proofs in issued colours, both overprinted "specimen" (Type SA5); 1d. to £1 set of nine on gummed watermarked paper, each overprinted "specimen" (Type SA5); 1d. to £1 set of eight (all without gum) each handstamped "Specimen" (Type NA1) in violet; £5 orange with large part original gum handstamped "Specimen" in violet in an unlisted type (ex Marcus Samuel); 1d. to £5 (slightly faded) mint set of nine, the £5 signed by Tom Allen on reverse; 1d. to £1 set of eight, all marginal (1d. with plate number) affixed to card presented by the Postmaster General, M.G. Hamilton, to Sir Arthur Bigge; £1 chocolate (3) all with postal cancellations - very rare; 6d. and 1/- tied by "point/natal" double-ring d.s. on 1896 "natal government telegraphs" form; 1d. in combination with Cape of Good Hope and Natal Postage 1d. on 1899 philatelic envelope to Vienna; an Telegraph forms (3 headed "natal government telegraph") including one bearing 1/- strip of three cancelled at Pietermaritzburg.
