1954 £1 imperforate essay very similar to the issued design, with Queen's head printed in brown-red and the crown in frame in black, the remainder hand-painted in grey, black and Chinese white, the essay then applied to thick grey card (95 x 105mm.) and endorsed 'approved' and signed and dated 2/4/54' in red ink , then altered with 'Not' inserted before 'approved''; a couple of very minor stain marks to the grey card only.
