Note: The 1st Battalion 21st Fusiliers went out to Barbados in March 1860. Two companies of the regiment were detached for duty in British Guiana, where they stayed for four years. Their primary duty was as a fire brigade, as in 1861 a conflagration destroyed part of Georgetown. In 1860 British Guiana took control of the Post Office, although the British Post Office remained responsible for overseas mail.
