Lot: 177

British Guiana
1863-76 Ship Issues
Internal Mail
Undateable front and large part back addressed to "Adjudeah Doobay, Shop Keeper, Arnos Grove Village, East Bank, Demerara", bearing 1866 perf 10 4c. blue bisected diagonally and tied by "A03" obliterator with unclear datestamp on reverse; a little soiled. Extremely rare. S.G. 90a, £7,500. Photo

Note: Over a decade, various stamps - 4c., 8c. and 12c., were bisected or trisected when there was a shortage of two cents and four cents values. The four cents and eight cents are known bisected, and the twelve cents is found trisected.

Although this practice was the subject of an official notice in 1862, it continued and, at least in some cases, was accepted by the Post Office.
