The Unique Multiple in Private Hands Featuring the Type D Substituted Transfer
Type D
1c. pale dull red vertical strip of three, the top stamp being the Type D substituted transfer with the lower pair Type C, large to huge margins with each neatly cancelled by Demerara 17 April 1860 single-ring datestamp and affixed to fragment of nearly the same size. A very fine, remarkable and exceptionally rare multiple incorporating the Type D substituted transfer, this being the only example recorded in private hands. S.G. 16, 17, £32,500+. Photo
Note: Type D is undoubtedly a substituted transfer, replacing a damaged unit. The strip may originate from vertical row 10. If the last five types were B-A-C-C, the final horizontal row would be type C. Type D would then be a substitute for type A in row 8, position 10.
