1898 Three page autograph letter signed by Lieutenant General Sir William Penn Symons (1843-1899), from Umballa. He died at the Battle of Talana Hill, in the early stages of the Second Anglo Boer War. "Sir Power Palmer comes here to inspect on the 23rd, but I doubt his doing much with the troops. I have long thought that in India we suffer much from want of good inspections. I have an Artillery Camp to go to next month, and then on to the Rifle meeting at Meerut. In January I shall spend 10 days with the Cavalry and Horse Artillery round Delhi."(P) Written after the Tirah Campaign.
