King James VII and II (1633 - 1701)
1685 Coronation Summons addressed to Viscount Townesend, "Right Trusty and Wellbeloved Cousin", signed "James R" at the top by the King, commanding him "all excuses set apart" to attend the "solemnity of Our Royal Coronation" on 23rd day of April 1685, also "the Coronation of Our Royal Consort the Queen (Mary of Modena) will be solemnised on the same day". With an address panel.
James II was deposed in the glorious revolution of 1688
A rare summons, the wording of which remained the same for all future Coronations.
Together with a coloured engraving of the King after a portrait by Kneller, and a copy of the Sermon preached at the Coronation in Westminster Abbey (3)
