Trial Surcharge
"two" in red on 50c. on 1/- grey, variety surcharge double with "two" in black and "two" in red, unused with large part original gum, initialled "W.G.A" (W.G. Aikman) on reverse, fresh appearance, fine. S.G. 35c, £16,000. Photo

Note: The sheets of 1/- were divided into pane of sixty before being surcharged. The surcharge was in settings of ten (two vertical strips of five) three times on the half sheet of thirty. The printer first surcharged two settings in black, then cleaned the type and surcharged the second and third block of ten in red. One of each block of ten went into the Post Office Stamp Record Book at Belize but this volume was destroyed a few years later when the Post Office was burned to the ground. Nine of each of the black only and of the red and black therefore remain. Eight of each passed into the hands of W.G. Aikman who put his initials in ink on the back of each.
