Following the purchase of Mombasa stock of the first issue by Whitfield King & Co., Indian Stamps were obtained, almost certainly from Zanzibar, and were put into use at the Imperial British East Africa Co. Post Office at Mombasa between 23 May and 31 December 1890.

8a. dull mauve block of six (3x2) and a vertical pair on piece, all cancelled by Mombasa c.d.s. for 17 September 1890; a few light stains and other small faults. S.G. Z7, £4,800. Photo

Note: This is considered to be the largest known multiple so cancelled. The Danson collection contained a strip of thee postmarked on the same day.
